Happy Birthday!

I made this card for my Sister in Law Kate!  She is a crafty person as well, and I try so hard to do something that's new for me, or new to hear, meaning I on't know if she's done___ before.  I try to stump her and since she has and uses a Cricut, and since she is into stamping more lately, I wanted to do something different for her Birthday!  So, I tried something new for me, which in turn is also new to her!  And she just called me and said she received the card, so now I can post it!  :o)

No Cricut on this one except for the scallopped edge along the top in which I used Plantin Schoolbook, but I did use a small Birthday Cuttlebug folder that I had of a cupcake and candle.  So, black cardstock, and some patterned grey cardstock, and I used a dot background stamp from BasicGrey (don't remember the actual name of the stamp), and I embossed the stamped image with silver embossing powder.  Then I took a scrap piece of paper, and dredged it with VersaMark Ink all over, then embossed the entire area with silver embossing powder, set it, let it cool, then went back with the versamark ink, and embossed it again, layer by layer, and did this about 6 times.  I then ran it throught he Cuttlebug and then trimmed the paper down to size.  I showed my husband and he said "How did you do that to metal?"  It's not metal, but I was happy he said that because that was the look I was going for!  :o)So, I hope the glare isn't too bad on these pictures and you can see the details pretty well.  I added some pink paper, some silver stitching, pink rick-rack, and a simple blakk piece of ribbon to the front.  On the inside, I embossed a simple "Happy Birthday" stamp in the same silver embossing powder.

Have a great day!

WHISK-ING YOU...

I made this card just to keep in my stash...

The whisk and the word whisk is from From My Kitchen, I used my Sew Easy to do the stitching!  The inside says "happy birthday" which is from Sweet Treats.  I also used a stamp set from American Crafts for the sentiment.

Hope Your Day is Sprinkled with Fun!

I made this card for a friend at work's Birthday!  I used several carts on this card, and it was pretty labor intensive, but I love how it turned out!  On the front - the "Hope Your Day Is" I welded with my Gypsy using several carts:  Hope is from Gypsy wanderings, Your is from Cindy Lou, day is from Lyrical Letters and Is is from Plantin Schoolbook.  The cupcake is from Doodlecharms and the flame on the candle as well as the frosting is popdotted, and I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the frosting.  I also used my new Sew Easy so stitch the front and I added a little purple bow to the front.

The inside of this card I used the phrase from Sweet Treats "sprinkled with fun" - which was the inspiration for welding the different fonts together for the sentiment on the front of the card.  And the colors I had picked out from my stash and all the papers, I realized that I had another cupcake leftover from when I made my Flower Cupcakes (see previous post).  I added some ribbon, embroiddery floss plus some more ribbon on the inside, and doodled a bit as well.

Thank You - for the Lebkuchen

Happy Monday!

I want to start off by saying this is a card made with love!  My dear Aunt Donna, whom I love dearly, left a surprise on my doorstep for me to find one day when I came home from work.  I say "I" because my hubby isn't a big fan of what was in the package, but, I am so a fan!  I am of German-Irish descent.  My mother's side of the family is German, and my Father's side is Irish.  My Aunt every year for Christmas makes Lebkuchen. Find out more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebkuchen.  To my knowledge I am the only one of my generation who likes Lebkuchen.  It's a cookie that has a distinct warming taste, and pairs great with coffee in the morning...  yes cookies with coffee...  why not?  You only live once!  :o)  There was also another little goodie in the bag that just warmed my heart.  Love you Aunt Donna!

Anywhos, this is a card I made for her.  I used From My Kitchen, a gift from my MIL for Christmas - thanks Charlotte and altered the apron a bit.  I hid the original cut of the pear or apple or whatever it was on the top part of the apron and then cut a star in Kraft paper (brown is the color of Lebkuchen).  The star shape is one of the shapes my Aunt cut her cookies in and she tops the cookis with a thin layer of frosting.  So thin it's practically see through but adds a great sweetness to the cookie.  I then cut the Thank You from Wild Card and doodled on that a bit and used my new "Sew Easy" a gift from Mama - thank you Mama!

I loved to make this card and hope Aunt Donna likes this card!  She is a very crafty person - all my mother's sisters are!  So, hopefully, she will like this card!

Love You - Valentine

I made this card a while ago, but just getting around to posting it.  I used a new cart I received for Christmas, Winter Frolic.  I know - Winter Frolic for a Valentine?  Yeah, I did!

I used The two cute little birds in their birdhouse from Winter Frolic.  The scallop is the negative cut I used from I believe Just Because Cards.  I welded the "love you" from Lyrical Letters on my Gypsy.  And I hand cut the tiny little hearts.  A little doodling and some pop dots for some depth.  I hope you like!

Cupcake Flowers!

In my imaginary world...  this is what I would see if I looked out my window!  :o)

If cupcakes grew like this, could you imagine how the air would be so sweet with the smell of freshly baked cupcakes and oh the smell of homemade chocolate frosting...  wow...  ok, so I might have a problem with cupcakes!  But, seriously, how many of us would purchase seeds to grow these, or buy the plants and transplant them in the backyard?  I would - I know several people who would!

I came across this idea on accident.  I was using my Gypsy to design a Birthday Card, and had the fence tag option selected from Wrap It Up (received as a C-mas gift - THANKS MAMA), and had the flowers picked out from Just Because Cards.  I received Sweet Treats from my SIL Kate for C-mas (THANKS KATE), and decided maybe instead of the flowers I might use cupcakes somehow on the card.  I selected the cupcake I wanted and when I went back to the screen with my mat layout, the cupcake appeared over top of the actual flower part of the cut.  Then the lightbuld went off!  Not only did it turn on, but I think it exploded!  So I left the flower on the cut so I could have something to adhere the cupcakes to and just added the cupcakes.

So that's the story behind cupcake flowers.  I tried to think of something clever for the sentiment, but just couldn't.  So I embossed Happy Birthday on the inside and added another cupcake.  I hope this came out alright and doesn't look too funky with cupcakes growing like flowers!

It's Official... You're A Classic!

I made this card for my brother, John's,40th Birthday.  I cannot believe I have 2 brothers now in their 40's... where in the world has the time gone?  I still imagine all of us younger, and riding bikes.  Is there a rewind button in life?  I had a lot of fun making this card and like the way it turned out!  I used the Wrap It Up Cricut Crtridge for the car and Cindy Lou for the font on the word "classic" and hand wrote the rest of the sentiment on the front.

2012 A New Year + What's in a name?

After taking a month (plus some) off from blogging entirely, I have come to the realization of a few things.

I miss blogging.  I longed to blog what I had created, but alas, didn't have the time, and in some cases just didn't make the time, and sent something, mailed something, gave it away to whomever it was made for without taking a picture, or anything like that.  I need to take a minute snap a picture and post it.

I never was totally sold on the name: "Mary's Crafty Scraps."  I have always like the name "Clover Rose Creations."  For several reasons; I wanted a name for my blog that was me, to the core, and not just something I came up with at the last minute, but also wanted something creative.  "Clover" comes from my father, who is Irish, and my mother's name is Rosemary, hence the "Rose."  I am their creation, and I love to create things.  My Mama wasn't to keen on the name at first, but I must say that I have been hooked on that name, and have pondered on it for some time now.  As 2012 begins, I am beginning a new chapter in my life and beginning a new year with so many personal goals in mind geared towards my hobby and love of creating things.  More to come on those goals later!  Sorry Mama, but "Clover Rose Creations" has officially begun!  It's a catchy name, flows from the tongue freely, and I love how it also describes me.

I love paper crafting.  I love trying new things, and pushing myself out of my confort zone when I create.  I am a person who usually plays it safe for fear of failure, ok, not usually, I just am, almost always.  But I have come to the realization that I have to like what I create, and if someone else just happens to like it, I am flattered beyond words.

Cheers, blogging friends!  Cheers to a new year full of new opportunities, love and happiness!

Happy Crafting!

Mary
